Autoreisen operates exclusively from airports (TFS and TFN), which means no office in Los Gigantes. That is actually their selling point: airport-specialist focus, streamlined process, zero excess included, no deposit, half-tank in/half-tank out fuel policy, unlimited mileage, and free child seats, second driver, and cancellation. If you are collecting at TFS and heading straight to the west coast, Autoreisen is one of the cleanest options on terms.
PlusCar, TopCar and the International Chains
The standard lineup of internationals — PlusCar, TopCar, Goldcar, Record go, Europcar, Enterprise — all have a presence at TFS, some at terminal counters and some via shuttle to off-airport compounds. Some customers report receiving substituted Chinese "DR"-brand cars instead of the booked model. Record go does offer a "Just Go" zero-excess tariff, but it adds £15–35 per day to the booking price.

The Pickup Process Step by Step
1. Join the right queue. Arrivals at TFS can be chaotic after a full UK charter or low-cost bank. Cicar has three distinct service points — if one queue is long, check the others. Autoreisen's desk is typically less congested.
2. Check the V-16 beacon before signing anything. From 1 January 2026, every car in Spain must carry a certified V-16 emergency beacon (Real Decreto 1030/2022). This replaces the old warning triangles. The rental firm is required to provide one in the glovebox. Verify it is there and that it carries the DGT 3.0 certification mark. The fine for not having a compliant beacon during a roadside incident is €200. Do not leave the desk without confirming this.
3. Photograph the car thoroughly before driving off. Walk the entire vehicle — roof, sills, front and rear bumpers — and photograph every mark in good light. Email the photos to yourself with a timestamp before joining the exit queue. This protects you against disputed damage claims weeks later.
4. Late arrivals. TFS operates 24 hours, but not every desk does. If you are arriving after 22:00, confirm with your chosen provider that their desk will be staffed. 5. Fuel before you start. If your provider uses a full/full or half/half policy, note the gauge level carefully and confirm it in writing on the contract. Returning with marginally less fuel than collected is a common source of spurious charges.
The Drive from TFS to Los Gigantes
The route is around 42 km and takes 35–40 minutes in normal traffic. Follow these steps from the airport exit:
- Join the TF-1 westbound (signed towards San Miguel / Arona / Los Cristianos). This is the southern motorway; speed limit 120 km/h.
- Continue ~21–28 km past Los Cristianos, Playa de las Américas, and Costa Adeje. Do not turn off early — these junctions can tempt you if you are looking for signs to Santiago del Teide.
- Take Exit 87 onto the TF-46 spur signed towards Playa San Juan and Alcalá. This is the critical turn. Miss Exit 87 and you continue towards Guía de Isora — a common wrong turn that adds 20+ minutes and involves a U-turn on unfamiliar roads.
- Follow the TF-46 to Alcalá, then join the TF-47 northbound along the coast. The road passes through Playa San Juan, Playa de la Arena, and Puerto de Santiago before the final climb into Los Gigantes.
- The final descent into the resort is steep and narrow. At night it is also poorly lit. Use low gear on the way down and allow extra time if you are unfamiliar with the one-way street system in the resort core.
Road conditions note (2026): The TF-1 third-lane works between the Oroteanda and Las Américas junctions may cause narrowed lanes and reduced speed limits in that stretch. Allow extra time and stay alert to variable message signs. The Erjos tunnel (which will eventually shorten the northern loop from Los Gigantes) remains under construction with a Q1 2027 opening target.

TFS vs TFN: Which Airport for the West Coast
If your travel plans are flexible, always route through TFS (Tenerife South). Direct UK services include easyJet, Jet2, Ryanair, TUI, and British Airways, with year-round flights of around 4.5 hours.
TFN (Tenerife North / Los Rodeos) is roughly 90 km from Los Gigantes — around one hour's drive — and primarily serves inter-island and mainland Spanish routes rather than direct UK charter or low-cost flights. For the vast majority of UK visitors staying on the west coast, TFN adds needless driving time and complexity. It is mainly relevant if you are doing an inter-island hop or connecting from Madrid or Barcelona.
Alternatives: Hotel Delivery Instead of Airport Pickup
Not everyone wants to tackle the TF-1 after a 4.5-hour flight, particularly late at night with young children. Two west-coast operators offer delivery as a core service:
